Motives of migration and types of migration – the case of Polish immigrants in Iceland

The eagerness to learn a new culture and the degree of “entry” into a foreign society is most certainly affected by what were the motives for leaving one's country. The motives for leaving determine emigration strategies and often affect how the first job is sought. This in turn is indicative of the person's capability to find her/his way around in the new social environment. These relationships are the subject of this chapter. The types of migration observed in Great Britain were applied towards the description of Polish migrants in Iceland, and based on this the differences between the two cases were demonstrated.
